Martha Perez , PhD, teaches a broad range of Haitian folkloric
dances in an easy-going and graceful style. Among the dances
offered are yanvalou, mahi, zepol, nago, ibo, kongo, petro, bumba,
banda, and others. These dances vary considerably in flavor and
tempo, with roots reaching from Haiti to West and Central Africa.
Some movements are fluid and stately, others are invigorating or
playful. All tone the body and reduce stress. Class features a
superb Haitian-style drum ensemble. Everyone is welcome!
